Will you be rich, wealthy or poor?
It starts from the time you're young. It sometimes involves the environment your parents provide for you. After that, success in life depends on decisions you make (i.e., you job, your education, your performance). Whether you decide to work or own a business is a major factor. Whether you succeed or fail in business is critical.
Bill Gates is a great example of becoming super rich. He found a niche that people overlooked and he capitalized on it. But it took a few years for Microsoft to gain momentum. When other businesses were sleeping at the wheel, Gates kept identifying ways to dominate different business sectors.
I don't think Republicans can guarantee the good life to anyone. Nor do I think the Democrats can stop someone from achieving wealth if success is a burning desire. As a 48 year old Black American, I can clearly see what the problem is now.
People with wealth want to keep it and people who are poor don't feel like they have to work for anything. When I use the term wealth, I am not talking about people like Gates. Most poor people are jealous of other people who they see that drive nice cars and live in nice homes. These people may have a few million dollars in liquid assets. The media unfortunately portrays the wealthy (people with $5 million or less in liquid assets) as if they are everywhere. Right or wrong, people with wealth tend to buy things that poor people see as exhuberant, lavish, and excessive. It's unfortunate that poor people never ask rich people who they acquired wealth. I have. It's enlightening to hear the various ways one can become wealthy.
The interesting thing is that it is now easier for a poor person to get a few million in assets than ever before. Just think about it. Most ex-corporate workers earning about $100K annually have what it takes to help most companies as consultants and earn twice as much. Companies now want to pay for performance instead of paying workers to sit in an office 10 hours per day. The Internet has made information more accessible to the public. People (poor and not so poor) must find out what needs are going unfulfilled.
The only reason I stay connected with politics is to try to inform my uninformed friends how to look at things and how to make decisions based on the impact on their lives. I think that it's a better idea if you make $100K to mentor others to make $100K instead of giving $20,000 back to the government to that Obama can give $5,000 in food stamps and keep the remaining $15,000 to expand long term socialism goals. If my friends don't want to work and improve their lives, then vote Democrat and hope Democrats can convince enough people to fork over enough money in taxes to pay them to watch ESPN, soap operas, and cable news. If my friends believe in success (however they define it), I tell them to vote Republican because the GOP party's DNA is about success and hard work. It's not for everybody obviously, just like high achievement is a personal choice.
As a Black American, I see the tide changing, especially among my Black Christian friends. The Democrat party is giving Black Christians compelling reasons to leave the party. When Black Christians come to the realization that they identify much more with Conservatives than 21st century Liberals, then look for a major transformation.
